With my animals, I try to loosely interpret the physical characteristics by using expressive strokes in charcoal, pencil, pastel or paint. I focus on capturing the subject's spirit, and the most telling aspect of these animals, the eyes. I am drawn to the more docile creatures that I come across in my life. The cows and mules that live near a family farm, the beloved pets of friends, the sheep I encounter while traveling.
